Become a Hospice Volunteer

A volunteer brings something medicine cannot — unhurried company, a familiar face, an afternoon where a family can breathe. If you feel called to give time, there is a place for you at Eternal Life Hospice.

The quiet center of hospice care

Hospice was built around a simple promise: that no one should face the end of life alone. Volunteers are written into that promise. Medicare counts their presence as part of hospice care itself. A family feels the difference in the room.

The work is human rather than clinical. You might sit and listen, read aloud, play a little music or simply keep someone company so a caregiver can rest. What you give is time and attention — the two things families remember most.

Ways to give time

There is a role for many kinds of people and many kinds of schedules. A few of the ways volunteers help:

Companionship & presence

Sitting with a patient, conversation, reading aloud or a shared quiet hour at the bedside.

Respite for caregivers

A few hours so a family member can rest, run an errand or step outside and breathe.

Life-story & legacy

Helping someone record memories, letters or a life history for the people they love.

Music & gentle comfort

Bringing soft music or a calm creative presence to ease a hard afternoon.

Pet visits

For trained handlers and their certified animals, a warm and welcome visitor.

Veterans visiting veterans

For those who have served, time with a patient who shares that history.

Behind the scenes

Office help, mailings and outreach, for those who prefer to give time away from the bedside.

Bereavement support

After training, walking with families through the months that follow a loss.

One gentle boundary. Volunteers offer company and care for the spirit, never medical or hands-on clinical care. That work stays with the nurses, aides and physicians on the team. Your gift is presence. It matters as much as any of it.

What it takes and how to start

The role asks for steadiness, warmth and a willingness to show up. Medical training is welcome and never expected. We prepare every volunteer fully before a first visit.
